I’m sure, by now, people have been wondering where Fandom Stocking is and where I am.

The answer isn’t one you’re going to like.

My mother has dementia.

She’s been slowly declining over the past few years and this year the mental decline has reached the point where I’ve become her primary caregiver. We’re currently working on getting her funding so we can have some in-home help, but that’s not going to happen overnight.

Simple fact is, as it is right now, I don’t have the mental or physical energy to attend to her and the financial mess that came with it and do Fandom Stocking too.. (Just cleaned my bank account out taking care of her property taxes and no idea what I’ll do about the car payment. Think it’s weird to do a GoFundMe so we can have Christmas? Asking for a very tired woman)

I thought we’d have those workers by now and I’d have the free time I needed, but that’s not the case. Not what happened.

I AM hoping to try it in the new year. We hold Fandom Stocking at Christmas, but there’s nothing saying it can’t be a new years thing.

In the meantime, I’m going to put up a brainstorming post. If you’d like to revamp the rules and the methods, then please share. If we can work out a format that seems agreeable to us, we do have tech support who can put it together. (aka hi honey)

Good evening folks!

The Archive collection for this year is live. Everything SHOULD be revealed, but if you wrote something it's best to check. Last year we had a couple stories get 'stuck' as it were. It's an easy fix but we need to know about it so we can let AO3 know.

Proper post later, but for now, I must throw MASSIVE roses to enemytosleep because I had some family issues flare up this December and January and she quite literally saved our bacon.

2018 Round Wrap Up: We’re LIVE

Hey Folks!

All of the stocking posts and the AO3 collection have gone live. If you have not had a chance to post your gift yet — no worries! Just add it when you can this weekend. We all love gifts, and receiving extra gifts tonight or tomorrow is no big deal. Please go enjoy your gifts, thank the gifters who made them, and revel in all of the good cheer that you’ve all managed to share (and do check back as gifts are still steadily coming in so you might get another treat in there). Be proud of your efforts because the results are pretty great!

Before I get too far into the rest of this, I just want to remind everyone that if there is a problem with your stocking or one of your gifts, please let the head_elf know. We can’t fix the problem if we don’t know about it! I’ve looked at a lot of things in the last 24 hours so it’s entirely possible that I missed something that I shouldn’t have (just let me know if I did!).

Now for the mushy stuff.

I wanted to thank medie for trusting me with the reins this year. We’d never met and I’ve been offline for a very long time, but it felt good to get back into the fray and get my hands dirty behind the scenes. More importantly, I want to ask that everyone please send positive thoughts and good vibes to medie. Let’s just say that she has been through some things lately outside of the exchange fest, and she could use the good energy. ♥ I’ve run various groups in the past and I know how much work they can be, especially when you are on your own, let alone when the real world is collapsing around you. Without her efforts, there would be no fandom_stocking this year at all, so please be kind and keep good feelings in your heart as she and her family continue handling things. She got this round started and then trusted me with her baby. I did my best to take care of it for her this year while her attention was needed elsewhere.

Next I would like to thank nenya_kanadka for stepping in and helping me wrangle tags! Tags are not my strongest suit, and she really saved me and helped get things in a workable order. We do plan to overhaul the tags after this round to get them all into one format, as well as to streamline some of the larger fandoms. If you have any ideas on improving the current tag list, please let us know! We want to make things as simple to navigate as we can so that next year people can find stockings with ease. nenya_kanadka, THANK YOU.

And last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank each and every participant who helped create gifts. Some of you went above and beyond creating gifts outside your fandoms and for many, many people, but none of this would have worked if EACH of you hadn’t stepped in and created gifts no matter the total number. I know for a fact that some of these gifters didn’t even have their own stocking and simply created gifts for the sake of giving. I cannot thank you enough, and I hope that next year you will join us and get a proper stocking of your own.

Thank you everyone for participating this year despite the hiccups. We got there in the end thanks to the efforts of everyone involved. Now … stop reading this and go enjoy your gifts. ;P

Final Stockings Update

Hello everyone!

I’ve checked the Needy Stockings once more, and we are good to go!

Tomorrow I’ll begin unlocking all of the DW posts and comments. If you have not had a chance to post your gift yet — no worries! Just add it when you can this weekend. We all love gifts, and receiving extra gifts this weekend is no big deal.

medie will unlock the AO3 collection once the DW posts are all set. I will make a post again when everything is live, but if you’re like me and check your stocking periodically, you may find it already open. :D I wish there were a quicker way to do this part, but alas, it allows me to do one final sweep to make sure there are no gifts containing obvious DNW’s and things like that.

Thank you everyone who has worked so hard to make this possible. I will make a proper thank you post later this weekend, but for now please know that I am very, very appreciative of your efforts. This gift exchange can't happen without people like you!

Needy Stockings Update

Hey everyone, I have gone through the Needy Stockings once more. We are down to the final TWO stockings! Please CLICK HERE to see which gift stockings still need some more love.

We had over 30 fanworks added to AO3 overnight, and a quick glance at the other stockings shows a very healthy offering of good cheer. I cannot state again how impressed I have been with the extremely generous gifters who have gone above and beyond to answer the call. We would not be where we are without all of your hard word and good will. THANK YOU. ♥

I will update us again tomorrow. For now, I’m hopeful that we can stick to the 19th for reveals and that we can get some gifts together for these last two stockings. Thank you everyone for all of your help in making this fest a success so far.

Needy Stockings Volunteer Post

It's that time again! We’ve started to look through stockings to see which ones need more love.

We know there are a lot of people still filling posts as well, and we will keep our lists updated as things get posted. Nobody goes away from fandom_stocking empty-handed, and we really must thank all of you lovely volunteers for making that a possibility!

Ideally we can get every stocking fully filled before the 19th so that we do not have to further delay the reveals.

Stuff Those Stockings!

Hey Everyone!

We’ve started sorting through everything to prepare for the Needy Stockings Volunteer post. We’re aiming to do reveals on the 19th of this month, so while we still have good time to get gifts posted, I want to make sure we give every stocking a fair amount of attention too. The Needy Stocking info should be up next week if all goes well. For now, you can find the updated tags list HERE to see what gifts people are hoping to receive.

Our AO3 collection can be found HERE. All works posted to the collection will remain anonymous and unrevealed until the end of the stuffing period in January.

I know we still have a few weeks to go, but as of right now, nearly 2/3 of our 2018 stockings are pretty empty. The AO3 collection hasn’t even hit 100 works yet. I hope now that the holidays are over that we can get those numbers up! If you’ve been procrastinating, here’s your prod to get started. I’d love to see everyone with gifts before the reveals so that we don’t have to delay further. There are some Valentine’s exchange groups with February events too, so I’d hate to run over and compete with them.

We’re almost there, guys!
